Solution for summer heat? – Get Creative!

Let’s face it!  Not every summer day looks like this and the heat can be unbearable.

Beachy Sunset

Most of time the outdoors feels like a heat sauna and the last thing you want to do is go outside.   The best solution for how to get through the summer heat is to get creative.  Try something new, there are so many easy ways to get creative:

  1. Coloring – Coloring books are a great way to start out.  There are some great ones available from your local craft store (and we sell some in our Cypress, TX Art Studio).  However, you can also go online and purchase images from a local etsy shop or even download free images you find in a Google search.
  2. Drawing – Check out all the great techniques available on Pinterest.  If you do a search on Pinterest, you can find tutorials and more.  Also, if you are not comfortable with drawing on your own, consider using pictures and images to trace until you develop your own style.
  3. Painting – Acrylics are quick to dry and very flexible and water color is also easy to do.  You can start with a picture you download or draw and then as long as you have a nice assortment of round and flat brushes you can create easily.
  4. Art journaling – This is a great way to get develop new ideas and just get creative without having to necessarily put it on display.  Wanna try new techniques, or just have a place to create something fun.  Journals are also nice to take with you on the go.  Also, there are no limitations to art journaling, they can be everything from drawings, to decoupage, to stamping, painting, coloring and more.
  5. Mixed media – This is a great way to combine different methods of getting creative, including painting, drawing, coloring, decoupaging and more.  You can do this on paper, canvas, wood boards and more.  It’s just the combination of many different art mediums.
  6. Upcycling decor and furniture – Do you have any items at your house that you can’t seem to get rid of but they really need a makeover?  This is a great time to give those items a little love.  Chalk paint and other stuff is easy to work with and can make some thing really tired looking a whole new life.  We sell Debi Beard’s DIY Paint at out studio if you are looking for a unique chalk/clay based paint, it’s something fun to try.

And of course if you are bored of getting creative at home by yourself, you can always join in on one of our great classes here at Artistic Experiences Art Studio, located in Cypress, TX.  (Our art studio is located at Skinner Rd. and 290).  For more details about our classes, please go to https://artisticexperiences.com.

All you need to bring is your beverages (wine, beer, non-alcoholic drink, etc.) and snacks, we will provide all the art supplies.  You may bring your own art journal or you can get one here at the studio for just $3.00 (or bring 3 canned goods for the local food pantry and get it for FREE!)

What is mixed media? It’s amazing

Wanna try something new? You should try creating mixed media art. It’s basically defined as art created using a variety of media. That means using more than one component. So that means, not just paint, not just pencil, not just ink. It means using different things: torn paper, cut paper, painted pages, paint, ink, glue, adhesive, decoupage, texture, fabric, stamps, printed paper, memorabilia, moments, and more.

No, you don’t have to use all those things, but you could if you wanted to. It’s all about pulling the things that speak to you into a form of art that communicates a message or a feeling. This form of art is freeing, there are NO RULES!

Artistic Experiences is offering two classes on paper crafting mixed media this month. Click here for a link to our calendar for more details. This form of art is a great way to preserve special family memories and momentos or to use tickets, brochures, etc. from a vacation or special event. This is especially fun for those who like to get creative, but are looking for a different way to express their art.

Also, keep an eye on our calendar, as we will be adding more mixed media events. Wanna book a private event creating mixed media art? Give us a call at 832-653-2398 or email us at info@artisticexperiences.com.
